Since I can remember, my hands were busy. Busy with needle and thread, wool and knitting needles, crochet, you name it, I've tried it.
The only reason I had dolls was to make them outfits and dress them up. Crooked, frayed, but dressed they were. Everything sewed by hand, I was too small to be let anywhere near my mother's sewing machine, after all.
At school I made a lot of my outfits myself. Because my mother also sewed a lot of her own clothes, there were always some material in the house, therefore it was easy to sew up a new outfit for tonights hot date.
Friends asked me to design and make outfits for them for special occasions. As the designs got more intricate, and I could not adjust store bought patterns any more, I realised that I had to make a plan.
In 1995 I decided to do a Diploma course in fashion design, and enrolled at Bloemfontein Fashion Acadamy for a two year course.
There they tought me, amongst onther things, to draw up my own patterns, and a whole new world opened up in front of me. Now I could make my own creations a reality.
In between my 9 to 5 job, afterhours, during weekends, there were always some project going on, whether it be a wedding dress, drum majorette uniforms or couture outfits for beauty pageants.
During 2013 I decided to follow my passion, to do that which I love, and that is to help women look their best.
Christie Brinkley said in an article: "tailoring is the secret of well dressed women" and in the same article: "America's closets are brimfull of ill fitting clothes". I can say the same of South Africa's closets.
Especially women over 40 complain that there is nothing in the ready to wear market that fits their bodies, nor their age.
Women long for a corporate look, pants and blazer that fits properly.
A friend asked me to design and make a range of office wear that looks professional, but is still feminine and comfortable at the same time.
That made me realise that there is a need for Perfect Fit Tailoring.
It is important to me that each and every outfit made by Perfect Fit Tailoring is what the name of the company says - a Perfect Fit.
